H/T/P Presenting at the Annual HBA Summit

By

Happy Thinking People is presenting later this week at the 2018 European Healthcare Businesswoman’s Association (HBA) Leadership Summit in Berlin – HBA European Leadership Summit

Founded in 1977, The HBA is a global non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the advancement of women in healthcare worldwide. More specifically it aims to achieve gender parity in leadership positions, facilitate career and business connections, as well as provide effective practices that enable organizations to realize the full potential of their female talent. H/T/P’s Managing Director Angela Giebner is HBA’s Berlin Chapter Director at Large – Membership and Volunteer Engagement.

Entitled “People, Purpose and Passion: The Pathway to Success“, the 2018 Berlin European Leadership Summit will welcome approximately 300 delegates from across the globe, focussing on entrepreneurship in healthcare and life science. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to identify their purpose, how to influence and manage people, and how to share their passion through the art of storytelling.

Happy Thinking People’s contribution will be given in a talk by Iris Korsten, who will be sharing findings from an in-depth study she conducted jointly with colleague Vlada Gekhtman amongst female healthcare entrepreneurs and representatives of the investor community in selected European geographies and the USA.

The study makes for fascinating reading. Two stand-out findings:

– being a female entrepreneur in a highly complex, highly regulated industry such as pharma is not just normally challenging, our research revealed it can also be a lonely task.

Many of the female entrepreneurs we talked to felt that information was very difficult to come by, it wasn’t obvious what support structures existed for them, who they could turn to. They often felt isolated, sometimes lonely.

– we detected subconscious bias against female pharma entrepreneurship amongst the investment community. Despite lip-service to gender equality, prevalent views of women being the weaker sex – e.g. lacking in stamina, not being so bold – emerged repeatedly during the course of a number of our in-depth discussions.

Join us in Berlin if you can – it’s not too late to register.
