Think back to the last time you got into conversation with a stranger. Maybe it was at your local bar, your daily bus route or just at the supermarket while shopping for the weekend.
You’re daydreaming….your gaze wanders from left to right, one corner to the other, then suddenly, you’re alert. Someone has caught your eye, maybe you have caught theirs, and you start wondering. Who is this person? What does he or she think, feel, do? You are intrigued!
We often want to know more, engage and explore; sometimes we act upon this instinct, but many times we don’t. With our increasingly hectic lifestyle, and programmed as we are to avoid embarrassment, we often turn back to the beeping sound and glowing screens of our smartphones…. we miss the opportunities to discover something new, maybe to change the way we look at things.
Being researchers at heart, we felt driven to act upon this natural urge, this in-built curiosity, to come up with a plan and to disrupt the pattern. We want to know more!
We embarked on a plan to get to know more about the people around us: listen to their stories, learn who they are and what moves them. To grasp the spark where spontaneous encounters happen, start a conversation, see where it takes us – no research goals, no study restrictions, just getting closer, and possibly happier….
