The times they are a-changin’

An interesting phenomenon of our time: people seem to rediscover the old crafts again. I’ve come to observe this as I myself have recently stumbled over my mother’s old sewing machine and came to discover the incredibly soothing and satisfying effect of taking the time to produce something with your own hands.

It’s not only the result that makes you happy (your own ‘baby’ so to say), it’s also the fact that you actually sit down and focus on one thing only (try doing this at work :-) – namely bringing your idea to life with the help of your hands and the sewing machine.

On my search for ideas and inspirations came across loads of DIY blogs in any form you can think of. People seem to have a need to go back to the basic and somehow more tangible things in life – away from all the industrial and medial overload so coining for our time.

And I think in the long run, it wouldn’t do us any harm to establish this slower pace of life again.
